These and many more questions were discussed at the “Inspiring Climate Education (ICE)” conference - the first international conference on teaching climate change.

The participants at ICE09 had to watch out for the many bicycles in the streets of Copenhagen
The purpose of ICE was to:
- Attract attention to climate education
- Gather and pass on relevant education tools at www.teacherscop15.dk
- Exchange, inspire and develop best practice
- Contribute to international cooperation and networking
The conference took place from the 12th-14th of October 2009 in Copenhagen. It included a range of excursions and workshops, with the purpose of developing principals for climate education. The resulting recommendations were handed to Minister for Education Bertel Haarder and are published at www.teacherscop15.dk.
120 teachers, curriculum developers and civil servants from 35 different countries were part of the conference.
The conference was held under the auspices of the Danish Ministry of Education’s project on climate education 2009 in close collaboration between the Ministry and Danish Science Communication.
ICE was designed as a run-up for the COP15-Summit. In the aftermath, ideas have sprung from several international participants and the exchange is ongoing. To study some of the comments, see the ICE weblog.
