Asia and Europe meet in Denmark to discuss Climate Change

29.10.2009How can we put climate issues on the agenda in primary schools and lower and upper secondary schools throughout Europe and Asia? This was one of the ques-tions asked at the 8th “Asia-Europe Classroom Network Conference”.

Under the theme ”The impact of Climate Change and Sustainable Development within the School community in Asia and Europe,” Danish town Sønderborg hosted the conference. 100 participants from all of Asia and Europe participated.

The conference was supported by the Danish Ministry of Education and The Danish National Commision for UNESCO and took part from the 26th to the 30th of October.

An opportunity for teachers

To move climate issues into the classroom, teachers must be equipped to initiate climate projects in schools as well as the local community.

Her Royal Highness Prince Marie

Her Royal Highness Prince Marie echoed this sentiment as she performed the conference’s opening speech:

”The theme “The Impact of Climate Change and Sustainable Development within the School Community in Asia and Europe” provides an opportunity for educators and teachers from Asia and Europe to develop instruments to raise awareness in their countries to the environment and to climate change."
